Dear All

 

RE: JISC / Higher Education Academy Open Education Resource Programme

The above programme has put out a call for bids of up to £250k to fund the release of educational resources in an “open way”.  Such bids have to be led by Subject Centres, but are expected to be consortia of a number of departments.  If you would be interested in being part of such a consortium in the area of Maths, Stats and OR please can you indicate your interest by sending the information requested below to Janet Nuttall (j.nuttall@bham.ac.uk) by Friday 6^th February (apologies for the short timescale, but the whole bidding process is very short).

You should be aware of a number of key facts relating to this call:

1  The overall project objective is the release of material equivalent to approximately 360 credits of pre-existing learning resources.

2  The project will not fund the development of new teaching materials .

3  All materials must be free at the point of use (released from all IPR and licensing considerations).

4  The material must be available for amendment and re-purposing without restriction.

If you are interested in being part of a consortium, please take a few minutes to provide us with the following information relating to those materials you have available;

- Title of Resource

- Credit Value

- Programmes of study currently used with

- Development Platform

- Delivery Platform

- Associated licensing restrictions if currently known

 

Having collated this information we will then be in a better position to scope the project and begin to formulate an appropriate bid.

IPREN grants call for funding

The call will open for 3 weeks on the 12th January 2009 and will close on the 2nd February 2009. Decisions will be announced in late February.  Research projects run for a duration of 6 months. CETL SPLINT Visiting Fellowship Scheme

Subject: The SPatial Literacy IN Teaching (SPLINT) CETL Visiting Fellowship Scheme

Building on the success of 12 fellowships awarded in 2008 the SPatial Literacy IN Teaching (SPLINT) CETL would like to offer a number of 'Visiting Fellowships' for 2009 each to a maximum of £5000. Circular 4/08: Learning and Teaching Innovation Grants

JISC invites institutions to submit funding proposals for projects to undertake work under the third round of its Learning and Teaching Innovation Grants Programme.

 

JISC wishes to fund one year projects and activities that fit with the vision, outcomes and principles of the JISC e-Learning programme and support innovative approaches to learning and teaching. This is an open call, and projects dealing with any aspect of e-learning are welcomed. To reduce the initial investment in time and resource needed to develop a traditional JISC proposal and to encourage speculative and innovative ideas from the community bidders are invited to submit outline proposals online.

 

Funds of up to £75,000 for projects of one year duration are available. JISC has committed at least £500,000 for this activity during the three planned years of this programme.

 

Please note: The lead institution may only submit one proposal per assessment point.

 

The next deadline for submissions is likely to be January 12th 2009.  Further information will be available as soon as possible.

INTERNATIONAL NETWORKS FOR ACADEMIC COLLABORATION

Leverhulme Trust, UK

 

These collaborations enable a principal investigator to lead a research programme intended to stimulate an international exchange of ideas and experience between one or more UK universities and two or more overseas institutions. The value of a network award is normally up to £125,000 for up to three years. Deadline: outline applications may be submitted at any time; invited full applications 1 September and 1 December 2008

Leverhulme research project grants

The Leverhulme Trust invites proposals for its research grants. These are primarily intended to provide the salary costs of one or more researchers working on a specific and discrete project proposed by the applicant. Postgraduate studentships may also be linked to the project.

The trust supports research on any topic within the entire array of academic disciplines. However, exception is made for areas of research supported by specialist funding agencies and, in particular, for medicine.

The great majority of awards involve a spend of up to £250,000 over a duration of two to three years. If compelling evidence is provided, awards may be made for sums between £250,000 and £500,000 for research over a period of up to five years’.

Applicants should be based at higher and further education institutions or registered charities in the UK or at similar institutions and organisations in developing countries.

Nuffield Foundation small grants

The Nuffield Foundation invites applications under its social science small grants scheme, which can include education. Priority is given to the following activities:

 

•projects that develop social science research capacity particularly by supporting the work of those new to social science research;

 

•self-contained or pilot or preliminary projects that address the wider objects of the foundation, namely a broad concern with the advancement of social well-being;

 

•outstanding small projects in the social sciences.

 

Applicants must hold permanent contracts, or research contracts of three years and more, at UK universities or independent research institutes. Projects may be undertaken outside the UK.

 

Awards are normally worth up to £7,500, although in exceptional circumstances awards of up to £12,000 may be made. Grants may cover costs for research assistance, materials, data collection and analysis, and travel and subsistence in the UK and overseas.
